By Mike Devitt
The Philadelphia Eagles announced late last week that they had signed offensive tackle and former Colt Jon Blackman to a two-year contract. Terms of the deal were not announced.
Blackman, 24, was originally signed as a rookie free agent by the Detroit Lions in April, 1998. After being released by the Lions on August 4th of that year, he was signed by the Colts as a member of their practice squad. He was then promoted to the team's active roster for the final four weeks of the 1998 season but did not play in a game. He was released by the Colts on August 24, 1999 and did not play in the NFL last season.
A two-sport letterman in high school, the six-foot-six, 290 pound Blackman was a tight end at Purdue for three seasons. He started 10 games for the Boilermakers his senior season and finished with 31 receptions for 373 yards during his collegiate career.
