In virtual reality games or chat worlds on the World Wide Web, your 
avatar is the visual "handle" or display appearance you use to represent
yourself.  On some chat sites, you can choose from a number of icons to
represent yourself: you could be a lion, a screwdriver, or any kind of 
creature or object that suits you.
