Internet Use Doubles in 18 Months (Published in Dynamic Chiropractic, April 21, 1997) Nearly one-fourth of adults in the United States and Canada are now using the Internet, according to a survey by CommerceNet and Nielsen Media Research in December and January. The survey revealed a dramatic increase in the number of women users and people looking for information on products and services. Twenty-three percent of people 16 and older use the Internet, compared with only 10 percent in the fall of 1995. That figure translates to 50.6 million people using the Internet in the U.S. and Canada, more than double the number of people in the 1995 survey. Women, who made up only 10 percent of those online five years ago, have just about caught up to the number of men online. Forty-two percent of online users are women, up from 34 percent 18 months ago. The number of users who look to the web for product information has also doubled to 39 percent, up from 19 percent in the 1995 survey. * * * Chiropractic Calendar Added to Chiroweb (Published in Dynamic Chiropractic, May 5, 1997) A regular feature of Dynamic Chiropractic is the chiropractic calendar, which provides a listing of important events in and for the chiropractic profession. Now you can access the chiropractic calendar as an online feature of DC's Chiroweb (www.chiroweb.com). The online calendar comes with a search engine that lets you customize your request by city, state, or the month/year of an event. Once you've entered the criteria, the calendar will provide you with the event's date, description, location, sponsor, and a telephone number for more information. Events can be displayed either as a listing or in calendar format. The online chiropractic calendar also has an e-mail address where you can add your listing to the calendar or send updated event information. To access the Calendar from Chiroweb, you can enter through the For Chiros Only section, or go directly to the web address at www.chiroweb.com/Calendar/. * * * Chiroweb Adds Student Section (Published in Dynamic Chiropractic, May 31, 1997) In its continuing effort to become the most complete chiropractic resource on the World Wide Web, Chiroweb has added the Chiropractic School Daze section to its web site. School Daze, sponsored by the National Mutual Chiropractic Insurance Company, provides valuable information for chiropractic students and students-to-be. School Daze is divided into several sections for easy access. For instance, the Job Board, a free service of Chiroweb, helps students find an associate position and lets DCs post job information. The International Chiropractic Colleges Directory provides links to many college web sites, plus addresses and telephone/fax numbers. And the Chat Room offers a forum for chiropractic students around the world to meet, interact and share ideas. School Daze also contains an e-mail address where students can ask questions or request more current information on colleges. You can access School Daze from Chiroweb via the For Chiros Only section; you can also enter it directly at www.chiroweb.com/SchoolDaze/. * * * Online Advertising Works (Published in Dynamic Chiropractic, August 11, 1997) Over the past few years, business have bemoaned the fact that they have recouped little (of any) of the money they spend advertising on the Internet. However, a just-released survey by the Emerging Technologies Research group shows that online advertising can indeed be effective, and that people are buying products as a result of ads displayed online. The survey was conducted between February and April, 1997. Of those who are currently using the Internet, 27% said they had made an online purchase in the past 12 months. Thirty-nine percent of those purchasers bought a product or service after clicking on an advertisement. Overall, 36% of all Internet users have clicked on an online ad. Estimates show that there are now roughly 31 million American adults on the Internet. Given the above survey figures, that would equate to roughly 8.5 million Americans who purchased something over the Internet in the past year.
